2019 Chess Champion
Throughout the months of January and February, 55 students from all grades participated in the MC Chess Tournament. The tournament ended with a dramatic conclusion of teacher vs student. Mr. Fowler, a US History and Contemporary Issues teacher here at the high school, fought tooth and nail through 5 rigorous rounds to make it to the championship match to face senior Yeshe Rakagme. Chess is the purest form of competition; the better thinker wins and Fowler was no competition for Yeshe. Mr. Fowler said although he was better at managing his time, he made a mistake early on in the match which opened the opportunity for Yeshe to exploit that mistake which led to Fowler's ultimate downfall. In the end, Yeshe proved the better player and will take home the title of 2019 Chess Champion.
This tournament bolstered so much interest that Mr. Fowler created a speed chess club that will take place during Flex on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All students are welcome to attend!
