Our Backstory

The tragic loss of a teenager from a drug or alcohol related accident is an occurrence that no one wants to experience. Sadly, however, every year too many parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, neighbors, teachers, coaches and classmates encounter this loss. Special events in a young person’s life such as graduating from high school can heighten their free-spirited actions and increase the risk of a celebration ending in a tragedy. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one in three children under age 21 who died in alcohol-related accidents died during prom and graduation season. For the past 22 years, the Naugatuck High School Grad Nite Committee has sponsored an all-night, lock-in celebration to help protect Naugatuck High School graduates from becoming another statistic on their graduation night.

Our Mission

NHS Grad Nite offers all graduates the opportunity to celebrate together in a safe, adult-supervised, drug and alcohol free environment. It also provides parents with the peace of mind that their child will return home safely the following morning. This all-night party which includes sports, entertainment, dancing, games, movies, contests, prizes and an abundance of food throughout the evening has become a tradition at NHS that each class looks forward to attending. Since the first Grad Nite in 2001, this event has been offered free of charge to the entire graduating class so that no one is excluded. Our ability to offer such a program would not be possible without the generous support of our businesses, organizations, and individuals who provide financial, food, and prize donations as well as volunteer their time to this memorable event.

First Committee Meeting

We are so excited to start planning this year's Grad Nite! Please join us for our first committee meeting on Tuesday, October 1 at 6:30 in the Dean's Conference Room in the high school. We hope to see you there!
