Poetry Out Loud
What is Poetry Out Loud?
Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition for high school students across the country.
This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Poetry Out Loud is a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts, Poetry Foundation, and the Connecticut Arts Council.
Who should join?
Anyone with a passion for poetry can join the club. While we’d love for members to take part in the POL competition at the school level, you do not need to compete to be part of the club.
What is Poetry Ourselves?
Born out of student need and inquiry, Poetry Ourselves is a program that supports the creative process of poetry.
Students will be taught by professional poets the art and skill of writing, editing, performing, and more.
Students who participate in this program have the opportunity to work with professional writers from across the country. Some will become published writers and practiced performers.
Students can do both POL & POS or just one.
Let your interests guide you!
